Being at the cash counter means dealing often with the angry customers but the way to resolve this is good customer service.

To answer this question you can say, "While we need to deal with angry customers in this role, the most important thing to understand is the reason for customer's anger and solve it to their satisfaction. I'll try to see if they are unhappy with the service or is there a problem with the product or anything else.

Once I have understood this, I'll apologize for the trouble caused to them and solve it for them. Once the problem is solved, customers usually cool down.

If the solution to the problem is beyond my level of control, I'll put them in touch with the right people who can solve their problem.

This question will arise only if you have a previous work experience. In such a case, be prepared with some examples from the past and present them as short stories.

For e.g., you can say "One we had a sale going on in the store and despite having multiple cash counters open, the queues were huge with customer having a lot of goods in their cart. In the mid of all this, I spotted a gentleman, at the back of the queue with just a single item in his hand. He looked stressed and I found out that he had an event to attend. I requested my customer support team to handle his billing on a special counter inside.

The gentleman was relieved. He thanked us and left with a smile on his face.

Such small services at times, take us a long way".

The customer in this story was no one else but I and the other person was a cashier at a renowned retail store.
