1. If the minutes hand and seconds' hand of a clock are 25 minutes apart. What will be the angle formed between them?

a. 110°
b. 120°
c. 135°
d. 150°

Answer: d. 150°

Explanation:

For 60 minutes the angle covered is 360°
So for 25 minutes difference angle is ?
∴ 60 x ? = 360 x 25

∴ ? =360 x 25= 150°
60

2. At 25 minutes past 10 in the night, find the angle formed between the two hands of the clock.

a. 120°
b. 126.45°
c. 146.5°
d. 162.5°

Answer: d. 162.5°

Explanation:

25 minutes past 10 in the night means, 10:25 pm

10.25 means 10 hours 25 minutes = 10 +25hours =125hours
6012
12hours = 360° ∴ 1 hour = 30°
So,125hours x 30° = 312.5°
12
60 minutes = 360°   ∴ 1 minute = 6°
∴ 25 minutes means 6° x 25 = 150°
Angle between the two hands = 312.5 - 150 = 162.5°

3. A clock gains 20 seconds for every 3 hours of time. If a clock is set at a correct time of 2 am on Friday, what would it indicate at 6:30 pm, Saturday

a. 6.32.00 pm
b. 6.32.46 pm
c. 6.34.30 pm
d. 6.38.56 pm

Answer: c. 6.34.30 pm

Explanation:

From 2.00 am Friday to 6.30 pm Saturday we have
24 hours (till 2 am Saturday) + 12 hours (till 2 pm Saturday) + 4.5 hours = 40.5 hours
20 seconds in 3 hours
∴ ? seconds in 40.5 hours
∴ ? = 270 seconds = 4.5 minutes
Time shown = 6.30 pm + 4.5 minutes = 6 hours 34 minutes 30 seconds = 6.34.30 pm

4. Find the time in the clock between 7 am and 8 am when the hours hand and minutes hand will coincide.

a. 335minutes past 7 am
12
b. 382minutes past 7 am
11
c. 321minutes before 8 am
11
d. 357minutes past 8 am
11

Answer: b. 382minutes past 7 am
11

Explanation:

Tip:
In one hour, MINUTE hand travels 60 minutes
HOUR hand travels just 5 minute spaces
Thus,
MINUTE hand gains (60 - 5) = 55 minutes over HOUR hand in 60 minutes

At 7 o' clock hour hand and minute hand difference = 35 minutes
So to be together, minute hand must travel 35 minutes more.
In 60 minutes, minute hand gains 55 min.
In ? minutes it gains 35 minutes
∴ ? =35 x 60= 382minutes past 7 o' clock
5511

5. Find the time between 8am and 9am when the hours and minutes hand would form a 90 degree angle between themselves.

a. 257minutes past 8 am
11
b. 273minutes past 8 am
11
c. 298minutes past 8 am
11
d. 245minutes before 9 am
11

Answer: b. 273minutes past 8 am
11

Explanation:

Tip:
In one hour, MINUTE hand travels 60 minutes
HOUR hand travels just 5 minute spaces
Thus,
MINUTE hand gains (60 - 5) = 55 minutes over HOUR hand in 60 minutes

At 8pm hour hand and minute hand difference = 40 minutes

Here we have 2 possibilities -

1. To be at right angle, minute hand must be 15 minutes behind the hour hand
2. or it must be 15 minutes ahead of hour hand

In both these cases, it will form a right angle.

To be 15 minutes behind, minute hand must travel (40 - 15) = 25 minutes more
In 60 minutes, minute hand gains 55 min.
In ? minutes it gains 25 minutes
∴ ? =25 x 60= 273minutes past 8 am
5511
For 15 minutes ahead, minute hand must travel (40 + 15) = 55 minutes more
In 60 minutes, minute hand gains 55 min.
So they will be at right angles again in 60 minutes past 8 pm i.e. exactly at 9 am.
