11. Tell us about some of the daily tasks a front desk executive in hospitality industry is required to perform.

Answer:

The reason for asking this question in the interview is to find out if the candidate has an idea about what is expected out of them in their role as a receptionist & are they prepared to carry out all those tasks.

Some of the daily tasks that the front desk executives perform are:

i. Answering customer quires, providing information.
ii. Handling customer's complaints.
iii. Dealing with payments and preparing bills.
iv. Following up with the procedure from check in to check out.
v. Handling special requests from the guest. Example: Booking a cab for sightseeing, etc.
vi. Be a point of communication either by phone or email or face to face.
vii. Manage reservations etc.

12. What do you know about us?

Answer:

You need to be prepared for this as it is a very common question asked in the interviews. The answer to this question shows your preparation and seriousness for this job. Someone who has not taken an effort to find out about the employer is not serious enough.

You can find the information about almost every company/ hotel on Internet. If it is a hotel, you are interviewing at, read some customer reviews online and try to collect some interesting information from them as well.  

A well-researched answer would definitely add some brownie points to your kitty.

13. Do you depend on your seniors to take decisions in panic situation?

Answer:

With this question, the interviewer is trying to understand your problem solving skills and would want to find out about your decision making ability.

To answer this question you can say that you will try to solve the problem and ask for help from seniors if you are not able to deal with it alone.

While answering this question, your emphasis should be on overcoming the problem at the earliest.

14. How do you rate your computer skills?

Answer:

The front office executives are not expected to be programming genius but they should be able to use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft power point, Outlook, Microsoft Word etc.

While answering this question you can say that you have been using these programs. You can then go on to tell them various tasks for which you use these programs.

15. What are your weaknesses?

Answer:

Every individual has weakness so don't be scared to admit that you also do have some. What's important is that your weaknesses should not prove to be fatal to the business or role and that you are taking actions to fix them.

Understand this question as "Is there anything that would prevent me from hiring you?"

So, to answer this question, you can say something like, "Yes, till somedays back I used to suffer from finishing all my work on time which needed me to stay for long at my work place. However, I realized that I needed to work on my organization skills. I read some good books about organizing your work for the front office and implemented some ideas. I'm already seeing a result that my work is finishing much faster than earlier. I plan to implement the remaining techniques and I'm sure that it would further improve my performance."
