11. What diet advice would you give your clients?

As a personal trainer, you would be asked a lot of questions about nutrition. But you need to understand that each client is different and has different requirements. A personal trainer needs to help each client find the approach that works best for them. Most of the clients are best served by eating good quality wholesome food in reasonable amount, however, athletes and hard-training clients have more unique needs.

Along with this it is also very important to know that technical details of each nutritive element. Like you should know that nutrition required to handle a particular condition, the calorific values etc.

To answer this question you can say: "I would try to work out each client’s diet based on their goals and exercise type and would also keep in mind their health requirement. I would keep in mind their goal and their current diet and find out where they are going wrong in their current diet."

12. How would you keep your clients motivated and engaged?

A personal trainer has to keep his clients motivated and should have a positive approach towards the betterment of the client’s health and well being.

Here are a few ways through which one can motivate your clients:

i.) Communicate: Talk to your clients and build a rapport with them. Be the positive note in their good and bad times. Sit down and review their goals. Always give feedback back positive and constructive.
ii.) Always be positive: Even if you are having a bad day you need to be positive. It is very important to remain positive so that the clients can have positive attitude looking at you.
iii.) Set goals: You have to set both short term and long term goals. Setting long-term goal is easy but the short-term goals help you achieve your final goal.
iv.) Make workout plan fun: Workouts are tough but it is the role of the personal trainer to make it fun for the client. Try to build a new and interesting plan for your clients.
v.) Build confidence: This will make the clients good at specific things. Confidence will make them realize that they are capable of doing things. Confidence will also make the client more consistent which will give a positive result.
vi.) Review and remind them where they started. Their journey towards their goal will also make them motivated.

13. Do you know ABC style of training?

Most of the training centers have a certain type of training module. They have specialized form of training such as Pilates, power yoga, etc. With this question, the interviewer is trying to understand if you can fit in their training style. They would also like to see if you are adaptable and flexible towards your employer.

To answer this question you can say that: "I do not know this particular style but I am happy to learn. I am quick at adapting and learning new techniques"

If you know the particular style you can say: "I am very well versed with this technique of training. I have had 2 clients whom I have successfully worked with. This technique helped my client in gaining more flexibility and helped them build muscle strength."

14. As a personal trainer, how would you increase your client base?

The employer would like to know what you will do to keep the clients coming back to the gym. What efforts you will put to get new clients. He/she would like to know your sales skills and your ability to retain the existing clients.

To answer this question you can say that: "I always try to keep my training session engaging and I also try something new for my clients so that they do not find the training sessions monotonous. This also keeps them motivated. I talk to the clients and ask them if they know anyone who could benefit from my training. I also ask my clients for their testimonials and I also run a campaign "refer your friend" on various social media platforms,which is a huge success."

15. How would you handle a client who has a health issue?

As a personal trainer, you will come across people who may have certain health problems. The interviewer is trying to understand how well you can handle these types of clients.

To answer this question you can say that: "I communicate effectively with all my clients. Before starting to train any client I check with them for any injury or any health problem. Keeping in mind their health problem I create a personalized plan that will benefit them and not cause them any harm."

16. How do you handle clients who are difficult to work with?

As a trainer, you will have clients who are not easy to work with. You will have to learn to adapt and come up with a positive resolution to cater to these types of clients. The interviewer would be interested in knowing how you would cater to these types of difficult personalities.

To answer this question you can say that: "I have a very flexible and adaptable approach. I always listen to the clients and do not have a 'my way only' approach towards them. I try to understand their needs and also try to build a healthy rapport with them which makes working out with them easy. I make sure I develop individualized plans to meet their needs."

17. How was your previous experience as a trainer?

To answer this question, share what you have learned from your previous employer. Share with them the highlights of your experience. The employer might want to understand what you are passionate about. Tell them about your success stories.

To answer this question you can say something like: "I got an opportunity to learn and explore. I had a client who was a senior person and was determined to lose weight. I prepared smaller goals for her like giving up junk food and more walks on the treadmill. Slowly we started strength training. By the time we were losing weight I was able to shift her focus from weight loss to maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle. I am glad that she has not lost her motivation and has been able to achieve her goal. I am also happy that I was able to make a positive impact on her life.

Also, I have had clients who wanted to train themselves for upcoming marathon and some wanted to join certain sports. I was able to cater to their needs. I made meal plans as per their requirement and also focused on exercise that would suit their needs."

18. Would you be available at so and so time?

Availability is one of the most important criteria for most of the trainers. The  training sessions with your clients have to be your priority number one and you’ll make yourself available. So, tell this to the interviewer & In fact, not just tell the interviewer but really mean it.
