8. What is the scope and gains of being an RJ?

Answer:

Radio Jockeying is a booming career option. There is a lot of scope for quick growth. You get a lot of recognition and fame. You get to connect with people in a good way. You get good contractual money and also get to earn from doing Ad commercials.

As you get famous and your voice is recognized by the listeners you are offered good packages from Radio channels.  Also, you get an opportunity to do voice- overs for ad films and movies. If you are able to connect well with your audience you also get to do live shows or events and get to compere and anchor.

There is a lot that comes along with being a good RJs. All that you need is talent, confidence, and perseverance.

9. How important is the voice of a Radio Jockey?

Answer:

Voice and style of talking are the two biggest assets of a Radio Jockey. Most of the stations consider various kind of voices for broadcast, but it is more about your style, confidence and personality to deliver it through your voice.

To answer this question, you can say something like: "Having a good and soothing voice is very important. But along with that, you need to know how to modulate your voice along with variations. Without a modulation in voice, your audience can get bored and eventually you land up losing them.
I'll try to talk to my audience in a voice and manner that makes them develop and feel that instant connection with me."

10. What are the things that a Radio jockey always needs to bear in mind?

Answer:

Your audience at a radio show will have people from all domains and areas.

So, here are certain things that need to bear in mind as an RJ:

i. Do not use technical terms: As an RJ you will have listeners from all over the country. Some of them might have a difficulty in understanding the technical terms. Talk so that even a layman can understand you.

ii. Punctuality: The shows needs to begin on time.

iii. Practice: Practice makes a man perfect. Repeating your work will make you better and best one day. Don't forget what you have learned during your internship and training days.

iv. Attentive to time: You need to know when you have to start and end the show. Cover different things at the given time. Doing the same thing over and again will make you lose connection with the audience.

v. Dealing with mistakes: Admit and apologize for your mistake in a creative way. This helps you to build trust and makes you a friendly RJ.

vi. Precise and accurate: Don't have a long conversation. Be crisp and short.

vii. Command over language: If your station is in Gujarat, your listeners will be Gujarati. Depending on your region you need to have command over the regional language.

viii. Good current affairs: This will attract more listeners.  

ix. Add fun element: Have your own unique style which adds value to what you say.

11. Why did you choose FM radio?

Answer:

FM radio is a fast progressing industry with channels coming up in every city of the world.

To answer this question, you can say something like: Since formation, FM channels have continuously changed and become better. FM radio broadcasts in stereo. The sound quality of FM channel is better as compared to other channels. The FM channels allow developing content, style and delivering in your way and that too has progressed and changed a lot. This continuous development attracts me towards FM Channels.

12. What is the colour of the sky?

Answer:

You can expect these types of questions which are out of context and can pop up from nowhere. Such topics check your spontaneity and creativity. These question can also be a check of your knowledge and current affairs/ events.

To answer these type of questions, you need to think fast and play with your words.

13. What is your salary expectation?

Answer:

As a fresher, you can expect a salary of 15,000 Rs/- per month. As you gain recognition and popularity with your audience, you can expect a quick rise.

To answer this question you can say: "As a jockey, I am looking to blend my work with learning and fun. I am not looking for a short-term exposure but making this a serious career prospect for myself. I am looking for (provide a range and don't give a specific number) as salary and I am ready to negotiate if the work is exciting and gives me good learning opportunity."

14. Tell us something about yourself.

Answer:

You need to talk effortlessly and confidently while talking to the interviewer. This question is an opportunity to make yourself an undeniable candidate for this position. Showcase your personality in this question.

To answer this question, you can say something like: I'm a graduate from ABC College with a Certificate course in Radio Jockeying from XYZ institute. This course helped me learn the important nuances of being an RJ.

I have a very open personality and I am socially active. I take keen interest to make myself aware of the events and current affairs happening around. I can speak fluently in other dialects of other languages. I can speak Gujarati, Marathi, and Tamil fluently.

In college I was an active member of our speaker's forum. I was also the host for many of our college events. Senseful talking is my passion and it comes naturally to me. I am spontaneous and entertaining. I enjoy talking to people and can also mimic a few famous personalities.
